Experimental set-up: Brine of different composition is pumped from the anoxic reservoir container via a peristaltic pump under anoxic conditions (Ar-purged) into the collecting container through a steel capillary that is inserted in a rock sample. After the reaction, the fluid can be sampled or collected in the collecting container (for experimental conditions see Table 1). Probes measuring pH, redox, and oxygen are installed in both containers. Temperatures can be adjusted by heating up the containers on a heating plate
