Mineralogical composition of KIR and DUR scale-fragment samples based on powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. The samples were recovered from heat exchangers (KIR-WT, DUR-WT), close to the wellhead (KIR-GOK, DUR1), or from pipes installed several hundred meters deep in the borehole (KIR56, DUR81). All samples measured are almost exclusively composed of Mg-calcite. Zincite (ZnO) was used as an internal standard. In the left XRD pattern, the determining crystal planes (Miller Indices) of Mg-calcite are indicated
