The model area of the coupled model covers the Bavarian (DE) part of the Molasse Basin and a part of the Austrian (A) Molasse Basin. It is bordered by the Danube River (blue line) to the north and the Alpine mountains (Alps, yellow colours) to the south. Within the model area, the uplifted crystalline crust of the Landshut-Neuöttinger High (LNH) can be seen. The area of the city of Munich is given for orientation
